Field to Fork: delicious delights and red wiggler learning

June 28, 2010

The Worm Farm® Learning Foundation shared with visitors from around the Northern State visiting Red Bluff's annual "Field to Fork" event on June 26, the advantages of composting with worms.  From the homemade pancake breakfast, through the farmer's market, and along the North State display of local food and agriculture traditions, visitors were delighted to discover the wealth of local products available for their table.  One of the event's key messages was the value of reusing, reducing and recycling, and the event featured a variety of local leaders active in decreasing man's footprint on the environment.  The Worm Farm® Learning Foundation gave all-day demonstrations on how worm composting works and kept visitors squealing with delight as they reached into a live worm bin to find and play with the gobs of redworms.  Children who visited were awarded a red bead representing the beating heart of agriculture and worm castings from The Worm Farm® were given freely to the delight of green-thumbed and "black-thumbed" gardeners alike.  The Worm Farm® Learning Foundation conducts monthly "Build your own worm bin workshop" the first Saturday of each month.  For information call 530-894-1276.
